There are many work situations where temporary personnel hoisting systems are required, such as for work in chimneys, chimney linings, silos, towers, stacks, shafts, where it is necessary to hoist or lower a person in a boat-swain’s chair or equivalent, or where the height is too great for practical use of a block and falls. This standard establishes the minimum safety requirements for this type of work. The requirements of this standard are in addition to, or in lieu of, applicable provisions specified by ANSI/ASSP A10.5, Safety Requirements for Material Hoists.
