Recorded August, 2023. Pandemics and other crises can trigger many psychosocial risks that affect worker health and well-being. The prolonged impact of the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the psychological stress that workers may experience in these intense situations. As OSH professionals, we identify hazards and assess work-related risks, then develop and implement effective controls. A management systems approach that aligns with ISO 45001 and/or ANSI/ASSP Z10 and incorporates guidance and methods described in ANSI/ASSP/ISO 45003-2021 (Occupational Health and Safety Management – Psychological Health and Safety at Work – Guidelines for Managing Psychosocial Risks) provides tools you can use to more effectively anticipate and plan for these crises. With better planning comes better outcomes – even when there are unknown conditions. Gain practical guidance on how to plan for and manage psychosocial risks related to crises, with a particular focus on infectious disease outbreaks.
